Terms and conditions

  1. All MyBIM Deaf members and Deaf non-members are eligible for this contest.
  2. Each entry requires fifty (50) BIM sords for the same handshape. Some exceptions can be made for certain handshapes, which is rare in BIM, however, must have a prior discussion with MyBIM.
  3. All foreign BIM sords are not entitled for this contest. Other unacceptable sords are name of places, countries, persons’ name, uncommon KTBM and SEE sords, home signs, combined sords and new own creation.
  4. All contestants shall check their list against the MyBIM master lists which are shown in BIM, Malay and English. The master lists are always up to date, upon the submissions from the prior contestants.
  5. All contestants agree to allow MyBIM to upload their submitted list(s) and video(s) to MyBIM blogspot, YouTube and other social media where MyBIM deemed to be suitable for dissemination purpose and public view.
  6. All contestants agree to allow MyBIM to reveal their name on MyBIM blogspot.
  7. All contestants are eligible to participate in the contest again after their submission to MyBIM.
  8. All videos submitted to MyBIM shall become MyBIM’s asset and MyBIM has every right on how to use the videos for publication purposes.
  9. All the contestants are expected to follow the participation process set out by MyBIM.
  10. All the contestants shall respect and accept the final decision made by the MyBIM on their submissions.

Participation process

  1. The contestant shall choose one handshape.
  2. The contestant shall be able to recall fifty (50) BIM sords based on the chosen handshape.
  3. The contestant shall refer to the BIM sords guideline.
  4. The contestant shall check against the list of BIM sords based on the handshape on MyBIM blogspot (http://mybimorg.blogspot.com/) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/c/MyBIM).
  5. Once the contestant is able to verify that all 50 the BIM sords are not listed and unique, the contestant shall record the 50 sords into a video.
  6. The recorded video needs to follow the format set out by MyBIM.
  7. Each BIM sord in the video should be translated into Malay and/or English on a separate sheet. The translation should be in parallel with BIM sords produced in the video.
  8. The video and the list of Malay / English translations shall be submitted as a package to mybimcomm@gmail.com.
  9. The contestant will be notified for an interview for further clarification on certain BIM sords submitted if they are found to be uncommon.
  10. Once the project coordinator has verified the received BIM sords have met the contest requirement. The payment will be made to the person immediately, however, based on the unique BIM sords they submitted to MyBIM and it will be based on a-first-come-first-serve basis.
  11. The person may repeat the above process for another entry of 50 BIM sords.


BIM sord production guidelines

  1. A handshape is not necessarily based on roman alphabet, A-Z. For example, letters H and U share the same handshape; K and P share the same handshape; Z and 1 share the same handshape; and 2 and V share the same handshape.
  2. The handshape shall be applied on the dominant hand only.
  3. The handshape used on the non-dominant which acts as a base only and this kind of handshape is not essential for this collection purpose.
  4. When producing BIM sords in a video, please make sure the BIM sords are organised based on their subcategory, for example, based on the use of one-hand, use of two-hand, location, one-handshape-on-dominant-hand, two-handshape-on-dominant-hand and so on.

Video process and format

  1. The contestant must sign the BIM sords themselves in the video.
  2. The contestant must wear appropriate attire, i.e. a plain shirt with one colour.
  3. The background in the video should be clear with proper lighting and quiet.
  4. Each video must consist of exact 50 BIM sords. No more and no less.
  5. How the contestant signs their BIM sords must be according to the format shown in Anthony’s video.
  6. The contestant needs to give a short pause after showing a sord in the video.
  7. The video should not be edited intentionally.
  8. The video shall be in a landscape.
  9. Subtitle is not required for the video.
  10. (The video shall be free of any words or drawing.
